IT'S AWESOMELY OFFICIAL!
TheatreWorks Florida has been approved for a $50,000 award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. This grant will help support the company as it plans its reopening in September 2021 in NE Polk County at Balmoral Resort Florida. This grant marks the SEVENTH award TheatreWorks Florida has received from the NEA.
Of 3,100 applicants nationwide, 855 organizations were awarded. Of the 855, 133 organizations are located in Florida.
A huge thank you and shout out to Alexis Senge-Johnson, TWF Development Director, for all her help and guidance in preparing a well written grant.
Scott A. Cook, TWF Artistic Producer says, "We are truly blessed. The NEA has been supporting our work every year since 2014. When we shut down due to COVID-19, we were forced to cancel our '20-'21 season and halt our community outreach program, Vet Voices. Now, with this support, we can move ahead slowly and safely with our reopening plans in NE Polk County."

On March 14, 2020, sadly, the Vet Voices program officially ended for the year - 4 months earlier than expected due to a wide spread COVID-19 pandemic. After much discussion with our FDCA grant manager and the National Endowment for the Arts, we agreed there would be no way to continue working toward an effective Final Presentation during COVID-19.
I am so sad that we will not be able to appropriately finish what we started. Our amazing vets learned to take their creative writings and turn them into theatre monologues to perform. And... we taught them how to SING (thank you so much, Frida Söderdahl!) and not be freaked out when they did it! LOL!
As we all deal with this impossible virus, our vets prepared a special message to everyone as their final project: VIEW VIDEO MESSAGE HERE
I look forward to the day when we can all be together again working on Vet Voices material. Until then, stay safe, wash your hands and keep being creative.
Sincerely, Scott A. Cook • Artistic Producer, TheatreWorks Florida
